The Occasional Dingbat is a collection of essays and photographs by one who is from “off” and who has moved to Down East North Carolina to stay. Such a person is categorized by the natives as a Dingbat. The term is applied with affection... sometimes. Sometimes not. The essays cover a range of topics from local phenomena to life in general tainted by a hyperactive imagination. They share the common thread of having been inspired from residing here in Otway even when the author might have been vacationing away.
The photographs, save two from Maine and three from World War II, were made locally and included, according to the author, to give polite people something to comment upon in case the essays happen to leave them at a loss for words.
